Gerald registered for the draft for World War I on 16 October 1940, while living at Tekamah, Burt County, Nebraska. Gerald was recorded as being born on 22 March 1909 in Omaha, Nebraska, 5 ft 8 1/2" tall, 152 lbs, with brown eyes, black hair and a dark brown complexion.2

Gerald H. Bon, 91, of Nampa, died on Friday, April 28, 2000, at a Boise care center. Entombment services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 2, 2000, at the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Caldwell. Pastor John Anderson will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of the Alsip Funeral Chapel, Nampa.
Gerald H. Bon was born on March 22, 1909, in Benson, now a suburb of Omaha, Nebraska. He was reared and educated in Nebraska. He married Lilah W. Cramer in 1936. This young couple lived in several states, with their growing family, before settling in Roy, Utah in 1945. Gerald built their dream home in 1956. Gerald was employed as a brakeman for the Southern Pacific Railroad until he retired. In 1998, they reluctantly sold their home and moved to Nampa. His wife of 63 years preceded him in death on March 26, 1999. Gerald was a member of the Church of the Nazarene. For a number of years he was a very active volunteer at the Ogden Rescue Mission and also helped at the Job Corp Center as a volunteer.
Dad was a storyteller, and with each new generation he had new ears to listen to the old stories. We will miss you, but we have the promise of seeing you again.
Gerald is survived by 4 sons and daughters-in-law, George and Sandra Bon, Norfolk, VA, Roger and Connie Bon, Anchorage, AK, David and Carol Bon, Spokane, WA, and Brent and Anne Bon, Riverdale, UT; 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Naomi and Marlin Hill and Wanda and Russell McIntosh, all of Nampa, and Brenda and Ken Wildman, Portland, OR; 1 brother, Willis Bon, Long Beach, CA; 29 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a brother.
Friends may call at the Alsip Funeral Chapel on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to The Lighthouse Mens Shelter, P.O. Box 1467, Nampa, Idaho 83653. on 28 April 2000 at Boise, Ada County, Idaho, at age 91 years, 1 month and 6 days5,6,7,8, and was buried on 2 May 2000 at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.5,6
