     Philipp Henkel was born at 1 a.m. on 20 November 1828 at Schlitz, (Vogelsbergkreis), Hessen, German Confederation (Germany), as the fourth child and first son.1 He was baptized on 30 November 1828 at Schlitz. His godfather was the butcher apprentice, Konrad Philipp Christian Tresser, oldest son of the citizen with full rights, master butcher, lay member of the court, and a member of the municipal council, Heinrich Christian Tresser.2

Philipp died on 7 December 1902 at Schlitz, Vogelsbergkreis, Hessen, German Empire, at age 74 years and 17 days.1
