Johann Friedrich Henkel, son of Georg Heinrich Henkel and Catharina Elisabeth Kayser, was born on 23 August 1792 at Schlitz, (Vogelsbergkreis), Hessen, Holy Roman Empire (Germany).1 He was baptized on 24 August 1792 at Schlitz. His grandfather was his aunt's husband, Johann Friedrich Kaiser, baker.1
Johann was the godfather of his nephew, Friedrich Schmidt at his baptism on 9 April 1809 at Schlitz.4
Johann married Anna Katharina Heil, daughter of Johann Jacob Heil and Anna Katharina Zöller, on 6 February 1820 at Schlitz at the age of 27 years.5,3,6 He worked as a master shoemaker and was a citizen with full rights.7,3,8,6,9
Johann was the godfather of his nephew, Johann Friedrich Tresser at his baptism on 22 October 1820 at Schlitz.10
Anna died on 20 November 1834, at Schlitz, at age 36, leaving Johann Friedrich Henkel as a widower at the age of 42 years.11
