Sudden Death
Eve McKowan the wife of Samuel McKown was found dead at her residence at Emerald Station, about noon on Monday last. The singular coincidence of her infant child being taken with violent fits almost immediately afterwards, created strong suspicions of foul play, by poisoning. Corner Dr. C.H. Cummingham was sent for, who took charge of the corpse about midnight, and assisted by F.B DeWitt, instituted an inquest over the dead body, according to law.
The Doctor called an examined a large number of witnesses and in addition to, and made a thorough examination as surgeon and physician, of the body, after which a coroners finding was arrived at that "Eve McKown came to her death from disease of the heart" all proofs and indications leading to that conclusion.
We learn that a report is circulated that Dr. McCaskey of Cecil who was called and administered relief to the suffering little one, expressed an opinion of the cause of death. Such is not the case as he refused to make an examination until after the arrival of the coroner. The deceased leaves a husband and three small children to mourn their loss.
