     Friedrich Wilhelm Welsch, son of Johann Adam Welsch and Maria Elisabeth Bier, was born on 1 January 1768 at Baumholder, (Birkenfeld), (Rheinland-Pfalz), Holy Roman Empire (Germany).1 He was baptized on 3 January 1768 at Baumholder. His godparents were Christopf Wilhelm Heintz, surgeon, Friedrich Ludwig Bier, and Catharina Gertraud, wife of Abraham Kuhnz.1
