     Philipp Friedrich Steffan, son of Johann Valentin Steffan and Anna Elisabetha Brätti, was born on 14 October 1762 at Mörsbach, (Zweibrücken), (Rheinland-Pfalz), Holy Roman Empire (Germany).1 He was baptized on 18 October 1762. His godparents were Johann Friedrich Hofmann, teacher, Philipp Jacob Stephan, and Magdalena, wife of Johann Christian Brünesholtz, all three from Mörsbach.1 He married Catharina Vollenweiiler on 20 October 1787 at Wiesbach, (Pirmasens), (Rheinland-Pfalz), Holy Roman Empire (Germany).2
