Dr. Clare H. Grosenbaugh passed from this life on December 13, 2019. He was born in Canton, Ohio, to Charles and Ethyl (Class) Grosenbaugh. Clare was preceded in death by his five siblings, and his son Mark A. Grosenbaugh. He is survived by his wife Donna, daughter Deborah Grosenbaugh, daughter-in-law Lauren Mullineaux, grandsons Andrew and Gus Grosenbaugh, stepdaughters Heidi Sward (John), Bettina Ufkes, Rebecca Lewis (Tom), Marnie Horton (Dan Grabowski), 16 step-grandchildren, great grandchildren, and 12 nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly. He was called to serve in the U.S. Army in 1943 and was taken prisoner at the Battle of the Huertgen Forest in Germany in 1944. He remained a P.O.W. until May of 1945. After being discharged, Clare completed his undergraduate degree at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, graduating Phi Beta Kappa, and received his medical degree from Northwestern University in 1953. Dr. Grosenbaugh practiced as a psychiatrist for 30 years in Grand Rapids. While in private practice he also served as a psychiatric consultant and on staff at Blodgett Memorial Medical Center, and Forest View Psychiatric Hospital. He participated in many capacities in medical/professional organizations. During those years he also served in the U.S. Army Reserves achieving the rank of Full Bird Colonel. In 1987 he moved to Coldwater, Michigan, where he practiced geriatric psychiatry for several years before retiring from his medical career. After retiring Clare was active in a local comedy group of seniors and loved performing and singing. He was active in the Golden Kiwanis and enjoyed being a Christmas bell ringer for the Salvation Army and other charitable activities. The family suggests that any remembrances be made to The Salvation Army or Doctors Without Borders. A Celebration of Dr. Grosenbaugh’s life will be held 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 11th, at the Zaagman Memorial Chapel, 2800 Burton St. SE. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery.
