On the 1930 census recorded 18 April 1930 at Franklin, Washington County, Kansas, John Dedrich Meyer was listed as the head of household. The official date of this census was 1 Apr 1930. Also living in the household were his wife, Salome C. Meyerand, his sons, Paul D. Meyer, Gerald James Meyer and Calvin John Meyer. He was was 37 years old and born in Kansas. His parents were both born in Illinois. John owned his property, valued at $1000, and had a radio. At marriage he was 27 years old. He was the manager of a grain elevator.6

Born Jan. 30, 1892 in Washington County. Operated a lumberyard in Hollenberg for 49 years before 1973 retirement. Member, Redeemer Lutheran Church, World War I Barracks of Washington County, and charter member, Hanover American Legion.
Survivors: wife, Salome; sons, Paul of Hanover, Gerald J. of Hollenberg, John of Slayton, Minn, and Delbert of West Palm Beach, Fla; daughter, Beth Simnitt, Chilicothe, Mo; brothers Lee of Marietta, Ga., and Edgar of McPherson; sisters, Velma Schaich, Normal, Ill., and Florence Bradley, Washington, Kan; 16 grandchildren, grandchildren.
Funeral: 10 a m. Saturday, Redeemer Lutheran Church, Hollenberg, Pastor Paul Moessner. Burial: Joy Creek Cemetery west of Hollenberg. Memorials: Hanover Funeral Home in charge.1,3,7
