Philipp Nagelschmidt, son of Johann Friedrich Wilhelm Nagelschmidt and Anna Maria Sinner, was born on 31 October 1842 at Michelau, (Wetteraukreis), Hessen-Darmstadt, Deutscher Bund.1,4 He was baptized on 6 November 1842 at Wolferborn. His godfather was his grandfather, Philipp Nagelschmidt, citizen and farmer in Michelau.1
Philipp immigrated to New York City arriving from Le Havre on the S.S. William Frothingham on 8 July 1858.2
Philipp was naturalized on 26 October 1880 at Illinois.3
Philipp died His obituary reads as follows:
"Venerable Walnut Man Passes Away
Phillip Nagelschmidt of Walnut passed away at his home Saturday
night at the age of 87 years. Mr.
Nagelsmith had been in poor health
since last fall when he fell and broke
his hip. His condition gradually
grew worse, death coming Saturday
night.
Besides his wife, who has been his
loving and devoted companion for
64 years, Mr. Nagelsmith leaves four
daughters and one son, namely Mrs.
Joe LaRoche and Mrs. John Winger
of Walnut, Mrs. Mary Ioder of Dix-
on, Mrs. Clara Boettcher of Mendota
and Henry Nagelsmith of Mendota,
nine grandchildren and six great-
grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tues-
day afternoon at 2 o'clock at the
Red Oak church, with burial in the
Red Oak cemetery." on 22 March 1930 at Walnut, Bureau County, Illinois, at age 87 years, 4 months and 22 days4,5, and was buried on 25 March 1930 at Red Oak Cemetery.4,5
