Christoph Schellenberg1,2,3
M, d. before 15 January 1639
Christoph Schellenberg came from the area of Waldeck in Hessen.4 He married Elisabetha (--?--).5
On the parish house across from the church in Schlitz can be read the words, "ERBAVT VMS IAHR 1610 PFARRHERR CHR SCHELLENBERG", built in the year 1610 Pastor Chr. Schellenberg. Schlitz always had two pastors. One was the chief pastor or inspector, and the other was the town pastor. Even in the old records, the parish house was called "inspector", because that was always his residence. Christoph held the office of the inspector at Schlitz, between 1609 and 1628, during the Counter-Reformation, which was a time of great unrest. Not only was the Counter-Reformation a problem during this time period, but the black plague struck in 1624, and war threatened. In 1608, Protestant princes had established a union, which was a type of paramilitary organization. Shortly thereafter the Catholic princes also created such a union. It was also only a few years before The Thirty Years War, which began in 1618.4,1 Christoph was expelled from at Schlitz in 1628, and served as pastor in Engelrod for a few years, before he was allowed to return to Schlitz in 1632.4 In 1635, he was again forced to flee, but was able to return shortly.1
Christoph was the godfather of Christoph Hof at his baptism in August 16153, and the godfather of Christoph Gemmer in December 1615 at Schlitz.6
Christoph died before 15 January 1639 at Schlitz.2
