     Rudolf Bernhard, son of Peter Bernhard and Klara Schneider, was born on 16 July 1882 at Rüssingen, (Donnersbergkreis), Rheinkreis, German Confederation (Germany).1,2,3,4 He worked as a chemist at Rüssingen.1,2,3,4

Rudolf began military service on 19 March 1915 as a rifleman.1 Between May 1915 and October 1915, Rudolf fought at Tirol, Austria.2 He fought in battles in Serbia between 31 May 1915 and 14 October 1915.2 Between 30 October 1915 and 26 November 1915, Rudolf took part in the campaigns in Serbia2, and he was transported between 25 November 1915 and 1 December 1915.2 He was in the left hand on 29 November 1915.2 He spent the time between 1 December 1915 and 30 December 1915 in a military encampment.2 Between 5 January 1916 and 11 July 1916, Rudolf was in a military hospital at Darmstadt, Hessen, Germany.2 He was transferred to the Kaiser Wihelm Institut for Chemie at Berlin on 31 July 1917.2 He was authorized to wear the edelweiss insignia for the duration of the war.2
