Will of James Shelburne

In the Name of God men, I James Shelburne of the County of Lunenburg and state of Virginia being sensible of the frailty and uncertainty of life do make and ordain this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all others in manner + form following viz.

First it is my will and desire that all my just debts and personal charges shall be paid after which it is my will and desire that all other property heretofore given to each of my children hereafter named in the will be hereby conferred to them and each of them and their respective heirs forever.

I give unto my beloved wife Anna Shelburne one negroe woman Judy and her future increase to dispose of at discretion I lend unto my beloved wife before named in this will all of the rest of my estate real and personal during her natural life and at her death it is my will and desire that all the property lent to my wife in this will shall be equally divided between all my children names Susanna Redford, Samuel Shelburne, Sally Crafton, Anna Redford, James Shelburne’s heirs, Elizabeth Smithson, Polly Love, Pettus Shelburne, and Silas Shelburne, which I give to them and each of them and their heirs forever.

Lastly I do hereby nominate and appoint my son Silas Shelburne and my friend James Wilson and William Ellis executors of this my last will and testament, which I have signed and sealed this ninth day of January 1817.
